Ear Diseases

Ear Diseases are the most common problem we see at our clinic. They are difficult to deal with and ask anyone with a Cocker or a Lab with ears, they will convey the chronic problems that never seem to get better. Well "mea cuplpa" the veterinary profession have been unable to deal properly with ear problems due to the basic fact that we have been unable to "visualize the eardrum" when examining pets. Whether the eardrum is patent or nor decides what type of treatment the pet needs. Most dogs and cats with chronic ear problems do not have an eardrum present.

This means that cleaners, dryers and most common ear treatments are causing more damage than good. Basically with the eardrums gone the pet develops disease of the middle and inner ears. We have acquired a Veterinary Videoscope. This is a camera that allows us, with a sedated pet to:

• Visualize the eardrum if present

• Used to Flush, clean, scrape, and suction the ear.

What we offer our clients is the ability to give an accurate diagnosis of the pet's problem, and the most up to date treatment of them. Nothing more nothing less.

Canines

Keep up your heartworm and flea prevention programs. Going into the Fall Ticks will be making a re-appearance. Use Frontline to take care of both Fleas and Ticks. It is active for approx. 6 weeks, and is not washed by either swimming or rain.

Allergies

August and September are inhalant allergy periods especially for dogs. You may have one of these constantly licking pets. The best prevention is giving them Omega 3/6 fatty acids, available at the clinic.

It is available in food or treats also in oil form. Keep your pet on these all year around for good skin and hair.

Felines

Outdoor cats need protection against Fleas and Ticks as well. You can use Frontline. It is applied on the skin and lasts for a month.
